"You know, I didn't ask for this." My client glared at me from across the table. "I never wanted to be psychic, I wanted to live a life just like June Cleaver's. I wanted to entertain people, have nice things and live in a nice house." She gripped the sides of her neck with her hands; her elbows pointed at me like daggers and looked up at the ceiling to stop the tears from spilling out of her eyes. She looked as though she was trying to choke herself.

I dissolved into laughter. How often had I said the very same thing? How often had I stemmed the flow of words from the higher realm by immersing myself in food, alcohol or entertaining distraction? How often had I wondered if I was crazy and sought ways to shut the small voice into a box, lock the box and toss the key so that no one would be able to "find out" about me?

Her glare deepened at my reaction. "I understand, " I said as gently as I could. I told her what I had been thinking. "It is all right for you to feel this way, I continued. You came into this world with gifts and talents you tried wholeheartedly to ignore. You are tired of the struggle and angry to realize that the life you constructed no longer suits you. It is time to become comfortable within your own being."

The floodgates opened. She told me of things she had experienced psychically and had hidden for so long. When she finished, she asked, "Do you mean that it's OK for me to go and assist people as they make their transition home? I know I came here this time around in order to do that."

"You don't need my permission, you need yours," I answered.

She took a deep breath. Slowly she relaxed and her shoulders unclenched. She removed her hands from around her neck and smiled for the first time. Leaning forward and speaking quietly she told me of how happy she was when she visited the elderly and sat with them as they approached death. She had found the thing that made her truly happy and would now make it part of her every day life. I was certain she would be more at ease when she heard spirit's voice within her from then on and feel joyful in having that guidance..

My client showed me emphatically that hour what I've heard many say. They have abilities and experiences that can only be labeled extremely intuitive, perhaps even psychic. Most times, they kept these occurrences to themselves. They hide from the possibility of being laughed at or, worse, considered crazy. Many have told me they had a mother or grandmother who "knew" things and had been "put away".
