Moving Mountains

What has accumulated in your life so that there's just "too much" of it? Looked at from the opposite point of view, it's Abundance!

A tree I owned had to be cut down. Andy, the tree guy, cut it, shredded it into mulch and left it in a huge pile for me to use. He typically has lots of mulch to get rid of and said I could have all I wanted for free as he didn't want to bother with it. I was really quite happy and, as he delivered the second load, I had visions of perfect flowerbeds running through my head like a mid summer's dream.

Now, after many months of aching muscles and a sore back, I am tired of dealing with the small mountain of abundance I'd been so happy to receive. Slowly, but surely, I have moved as many yards as I could of the huge pile to the newly weeded flower beds that run the length of the property on each side as well as all around the garage. Dealing with it now feels more like a trial or an extra job than anything else and I've begun to pretend I simply don't even see the huge mound that remains. I've even been tempted to pretend I don't see Andy when I happen to drive past a yard he's working in here in town. "Here, take this off my hands," I imagine him thinking. "You could use more of this, couldn't you?" I'd greedily told him I'd take whatever he wanted to get rid of. What was I thinking-If enough is good, way too much really must be better?

Sometimes, dealing with the abundance can become a trial, giving us new jobs to do when we already had too much to do. Sometimes, abundance gets old. It's not a new gift any more although its existence in our lives forces us to deal with it.

What in your life is so abundant that you don't even want to see it any more? How can you turn that thing into cash? I could bag and sell the mulch or allow people to cart it away for a small fee. I could barter with someone who wanted it. I could donate it to a parish school for use under their playground equipment and deduct it from my taxes. I could take all the mulch Andy wants to be rid of and begin a new business.

Our abundance is that which we can share, give away or otherwise circulate. I'm certain you have so much of something in your house right now that you could turn it into easy cash.
