Dear Hearts,
If you're like most spiritual people, you're searching to find the way to greater connection with your own inner spirit and to your Guardian Angels. You've most likely listened with enjoyment and rapt attention to audio tapes, read books, attended seminars and watched videos. You might even have had the opportunity to meet some of the speakers. Perhaps you've considered enrolling in classes that certify you as a person who really hears Angels.

I did most of these things too. It was lots of fun. I met new people at the seminars who quickly became long distance friends via the internet. With my own ears, I heard the "experts" tell the secrets to living life as a spiritual person. I had readings from popular psychics. I got to stand next to famous authors for just a minute or two and even had my picture taken. It was great.

BUT, after the seminar or TV show or book signing was over, I felt let down with a hollow "left behind" sort of feeling. As I drove home to my interesting, but way too predictible, life the same questions kept running through my mind. "What makes the seminar leaders'/book authors' lives so different from mine?" "How did they get to be where they are living the life they do?" In my head, I'd try to reason it out. I knew I heard them say we are all greatly loved by Father/Mother God. I knew I heard them say we all already have the ability to hear the Angels; that we may stand in our own power and create our own lives. I knew that they worked hard, but I also knew others who worked hard too and barely had anything to show for it. Not that I thought my life was so bad, or doubted my considerable ability to hear the Angels, mind you, but I'd think, "Was it fate, karma, or just plain luck that enabled them to have such a marvelous connection to spirit or did they do this themselves through their own efforts?" I wanted to find the answers. It became almost like solving a mystery.

I asked myself, "How do people choose the lives they live?" "How aware are they of the control they have over their career, income, and place of residence?" "How does their ability to hear their own Angels facilitate everything?" "Why do I seem to be spending my life taking care of the needs of others and never meeting my own needs?" "When will it be time for me to do the things I want to do?"

And, importantly,
"Am I worth the life I fantasize living?"
"Could I do this too?"

To be perfectly honest, one of the main reasons I've found this fascinating is this: I've always been able to hear my Angels. I was younger than 2 years of age when they appeared to me as spheres of light and kept me company. I saw them when I was of kindergarden age when I'd sit at the kitchen table and draw. They'd actually give me suggestions and examples. I'd see them sit in the chairs in the living room. They'd assist whenever I had to write a composition for English class. It was a normal part of my everyday existence and it never occurred to me that it wasn't what everybody else was experiencing until I was around the age of 10 when I casually mentioned it and got a very strange response. More strange responses followed and I soon quit talking about it altogether. But I never lost the ability. I kept it to myself, a secret, something special, a gift from Heaven.

And here's the most wonderful thing I've discovered!

I know, from talking with many of you, you too are already able or "just know" you're on the brink of being able to hear your Angels. You've told me so, in person, over the phone and via email. "They" Said They Hated Being Around My Multitude Of Faults.
Then Why Am I So Happy Now?

Before I gave myself permission again as an adult to constantly hear my own Angel, I immersed myself in one failed relationship after another. I consistently chose the wrong friends and business relationships. (not to mention- the wrong husband!) I involved myself in the drama of "making" my relationships work, twisting myself into knots, trying desperately to become what others thought would be the most "perfect" version of myself so that everything would "work out." I tried to win other's approval instead of my own!

The trouble with it was this-Each person had a different idea of what the "most perfect" version of me was! I had no idea of who I was or who I was "supposed" to be at any given moment. I was subject to intense criticism because no matter how hard I tried to please everybody at all costs, somehow, (they told me) I always got it wrong (Well, who wouldn't?)and that everything that went wrong was my fault beause of my inherent flaws. I hadn't only made mistakes, it was the fact that I was a "bad person" that made me make them, I was told. I could hardly hear myself think, much less know who I was, what I wanted out of life or how to bring all the creativity I knew was inside me into my daily experience. It got so bad that I began to have a recurring dream, the same dream night after night.

I dreamt that a white dove was locked in a cage within my heart. It would spend the night throwing itself at the locked door, trying to get it open. It gradually tired as the night wore on. When day broke, it finally fell to the bottom of the cage in exhaustion. I would awake confused, but feeling victorious. Once more I had held the "strangeness" of the real me in. I was safe for the day because it had quit trying. I could then, once again, lock my true self away so that I would fit in.

Finally realizing the utter lunacy of trying to live my life this way, I decided to stop listening to others and began listening to my self. I began using my own inner guidance as a road map with which to create my world. I finally listened to the dove's message; that my loveliest self—the part of me that is most like God— wanted to soar and sing. It wasn't until I realized the dove was a gentle, benevolent symbol of spirit that I, although terrified, began to leave the door unlocked in my dream. I had become concerned that she would hurt herself or die from the effort. I somehow knew it was of the utmost importance that I did not allow her to die. The dove then soared in great happiness and always returned to me. Later she took me soaring along with her and her happiness became mine.

As a result, I now live my own life, chosen by me and designed by me. I'm not even trying to be 100% perfect any more but to bring out what I consider to be the best in myself. When I joined myself with my own spirit and no longer feared what would happen as a result, my life began anew. Yes, I still had things to work through and changes to make, but I finally felt peaceful within. The important thing I learned is that my internal guidance is beneficent, kind and good. Yours is too.

I created my own path, a "Treasure Map," if you will, that lead the way back to my own heart. And one's own heart is a thrilling place to be, a place of total love and compassion. It is a place where everything is possible, a place where dreams can come true.
